(Construction) - On February 11/2020, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Association of Road Traffic Investors (Varsi) had a roundtable meeting with the Japan Private Financial Investment Association (JPFI).
At the meeting, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Tran Chung - Varsi President summerized that Varsi is a social-professional organization, representing businesses and entrepreneurs operating in the field of construction investment and road transport infrastructure consultancy. The Association operates on the principle of voluntary, non-profits, with the aim to coordinate the activities of its members improving the effectiveness of investment in road transport in Vietnam and other fields related to road traffic works.
Although newly born, Varsi has created the trust of the government and one of the important tasks assigned by the government in 2020 is to consult with domestic and foreign experts to complete the PPP Law. Therefore, this Roundtable Meeting is meant to open up many topics of cooperation with the JPFI Association.

At the meeting, Mr. Ueda, Chairman of JPFI said, JPFI was born more than 20 years in Japan. The purpose of JPFI is to make essential policies and recommendations for governments and related organizations; enlighten local government agencies, private enterprises and PFI / PPP operators on how to correctly understand and apply PFI / PPP methods, practices and procedures. The Association was certified as a specific non-profit organization by the Government of Japan on the Economic Planning Department (currently part of the Prime Minister's Cabinet) in March 2000. Mr. Ueda affirmed his willing to support and assist Varsi in public-private partnership in Vietnam.

At the meeting, many questions were raised between the two sides, but in the narrow scope of the meeting, it could not be further addressed. Finally, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Tran Chung expressed his desire that JPFI will create conditions for the Vietnamese side to learn from international experience and lessons in PPP cooperation investment. Each country has its own culture, geography and customs, so it is impossible to model any country into Vietnam, but it is important to draw lessons from success or failure so that Varsi can take as references, from this, it can form the most appropriate and best model for Vietnam.
