(Construction) - Japanese Ministry of Environment and the National Institute for Environmental Studies disclosed on April 12th the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced domestically in the fiscal year 2022.
The confirmed value revealed a decrease of 2.5% from the previous year, amounting to 1.135 billion metric tons in carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent, marking a record low. Deducting the absorption amount from measures such as forests, the net emission-absorption of GHGs decreased by 2.3% to 1.085 billion metric tons.
In cooperation with organizations like the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors, comprehensive scientific knowledge and data facilitated the world's first calculation of absorption capacity (CO2 fixation, 17 million metric tons) through environmentally friendly concrete.

Comparing to the benchmark of fiscal year 2013, which sets the government's emission reduction target for the fiscal year 2030 (a 46% reduction from 2013 levels), the total emissions decreased by 19.3% to 1.407 billion metric tons. CO2 emissions from the "industrial sector," including construction and manufacturing, after electricity and heat distribution, amounted to 352 million metric tons, a decrease of 5.4% from the previous year.
