Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi meets Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz

(Construction) - On September 27, at the headquarter of the Ministry of Construction, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi had a working session with Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam Oralando Nicolas Guillen and members of the Delegation.

Discussing during the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi noted that in the past two years, the two sides have made efforts to implement the Vietnam - Cuba Trade Agreement, but the results have not been as expected due to the impact of the Covid pandemic. Vietnam has been trying to be able to maintain the rice supply under the agreement to help Cuba to ensure its security.

The cooperation in other fields such as construction and transportation, information and communication, banking, finance, culture and sport, broadcasting, science and technology... were basically being implemented according to the commitment. However, in the coming time, it would be necessary to focus on deepening the cooperation, bringing practical results for both sides.

Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction for the warm welcome to the Cuban delegation. He fully agreed with the comments by Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi of brief assessments of the bilateral cooperation situation between the two sides in recent years.

Although the two countries had not met expectations on trade cooperation in the past time, Vietnam still ensured rice exports to Cuba to ensure the food security. It was a very important issue of the Cuban people that was very grateful.

Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz wished: In the coming time, the two countries should further strengthen its cooperation, especially in export including healthcare service, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biotechnology... which were the strong areas of Cuba.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasized that Vietnam agreed to increase the trade turnover between the two countries, including Cuba's exports to Vietnam, especially in the field of Cuba currently has potential strengths in medicine, biology, biological products and vaccines.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi affirmed that, in agreement with Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, the two sides should prepare well for the 40th session of the Vietnam - Cuba UBLCP Committee to be successful and practical. The Ministry of Construction has assigned the Department of International Cooperation to be responsible for coordinating with relevant units so that well prepare the programs and follow the planned contents.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi also agreed with the suggestions proposed by Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz: In the coming time, there will be more meetings to discuss and solve problems that the two sides having same interests.
