Japanese construction firms begin workplace vaccination for employees

(Construction) - Japanese major general contractors launched the vaccination programs at their workplaces on June 21.

Taisei Corporation opened the vaccination site at its headquarters and the branch office in Tokyo, at a rate of about 500 people per day, and will increase the rate to 1,000 people per day next week. The program targets about 30,000 employees, their families, and subcontractors. On the same day, Kajima Corporation and Shimizu Corporation also started administering the shots to their employees.

Taisei Corporation has introduced an in-house reservation system to facilitate the smooth vaccination of site personnel who cannot leave the work site. The employees can schedule vaccinations appointments while adjusting their work shifts. According to an official at human resources department, the workplace vaccination is expected to continue for several months.

Shimizu Corporation also started the vaccination program at its head office in Tokyo on June 21. The company plans to expand the number of venues to include branch offices. Kajima Corporation started vaccinating its employees and will gradually expand it to include temporary employees and employees of subcontractors. Haseko Corporation started vaccinations for all group executives, employees and their families on the 24th, and will expand the program to include employees of subcontractors. Takenaka Corporation will start the program on the 28th or later as soon as it is ready. Obayashi Corporation will start the program on the 29th for all employees, including those of its group companies. (2021/06/22)
