(Construction) - On September 8, in Phu Quoc city (Kien Giang), the 2023 Architecture EXPO Exhibition with the theme "Architecture – Creating sustainable space for the community" was officially opened. Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi and leaders of ministries, branches and localities attended the event.

In his opening speech, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi commented: In the process of human development, architecture is the form of art – science, technology that is highly specific and linked to the development of history, culture, art, economic society; organize space, create a sustainable living environment for people and society. Through contributions at many levels, architecture represents the ideological values, cultural identity and level of development of each country.

The Minister emphasized: Determination of important roles of architecture, our Party and State always appreciated highly its great importance and guided policy orientations on development of Vietnamese architecture with unique, advanced and international integration. Most recently, the National Assembly passed the 2019 Law on Architecture, the highest legal document to adjust the activities of Vietnamese architecture.

Vietnamese architects have achieved many achievements, with more architectural works winning national and international awards, the most recent of which are 02 awards of Vietnamese architects by International Union of Architects (UIA) recently appointed.
Besides the results and achievements achieved, Vietnamese architecture still has shortcomings and inadequacies that should continue to overcome in the coming time. Many urban areas develop unsynchronizedly with shortcomings between conservation and development.
Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi commented: Vietnamese architecture will continue to face many challenges in the new development phase of sustainable development and deep integration of the country with traditional and non-traditional challenges. Therefore, the preservation, inheritance and promotion of traditional architectural values with advanced, modern Vietnamese architecture should be carefully studied and specified in the selective acquisition and application of science and technology, the use of new materials, environment protection, efficient use of resources and energy.
The construction and development of Vietnamese architecture with modern, sustainable, and rich in identity should be promoted – That was the confirmation of Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Architecture EXPO Exhibition. Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van commented: The presentations and opinions exchanged at the conference show that architecture plays an important role in the sustainable development of culture - economy - society - environment.
According to the Deputy Minister, the country development and integration requirements have placed new requirements on Vietnamese architecture, such as development of Vietnamese architecture with modern, sustainability, rich in identity to meet the needs of cultural development to become the spiritual foundation in innovation, industrialization and modernization of the country, associated with strong protection of the Fatherland.
The Deputy Minister expected: The event would bring useful values to the architectural activities of central and local managers, domestic and foreign architects, and serve society well, for Investment promotion activities to promote the product development, architectural technologies, digital technology, new and advanced construction technology, high efficiency, meeting most basic needs to develo of Vietnamese architecture and planning in the current period.
