Long Xuyen city recognized as first class city of An Giang province

(Construction) - On June 25, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van chaired a meeting to evaluate the Proposal to recognize Long Xuyen City as a first-class city in An Giang province.

The proposal to recognize Long Xuyen city as a first-class city in An Giang province has received high appreciation from the Appraisal Council. Experts agreed that the project content was suitable to the actual development situation of Long Xuyen and national urban development orientations, An Giang province, city development planning. This is also one of the first urban areas in Vietnam to implement a wastewater treatment project in the city.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van summarized the comments of the Appraisal Council and the local note considered some important issues. It is to consider the plan to expand the city because this will cause the locality to develop a new urban development with new functional zoning plan.

The Deputy Minister suggested that Long Xuyen city should wait until being recognized as a first-class city before merging Thoai Son district, re-arranging administrative units and re-evaluating general planning, zoning planning and improving the weak criteria.

Based on Resolution No. 1210/2016 / UBTVQH13 on urban classification, the Appraisal Council evaluated the project to 89.2 points. Finally, the Deputy Minister requested the locality to complete the project and send it to the Ministry of Construction for consideration and submission to the Prime Minister for approval in early July 2020.
