Torrential downpour caused by a tropical depression killed 12 people and injured 11 others in the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, while five people went missing as of 4pm on November 18.

The tropical pressure originated from the weakened Storm Toraji. The rainfall in Khanh Hoa was measured at between 30 mm – 200 mm on November 17-18. In particular, Nha Trang city reports rainfalls of 380 mm.

The number of the houses pulled down or damaged by severe floods is yet to be collected.

Military, police and militiamen in Nha Trang are looking for the missing in damaged areas. Meanwhile, relevant agencies continue to move local residents in high-risk regions to safer places and demolish constructions which hinder the city’s sewage systems.

Schools in Nha Trang are closed on November 19 to ensure safety for students. Due to the impact of the tropical pressure, heavy rain is forecast to continue on the day.

Two flights of the Jetstar Pacific airline on November 18 afternoon to Da Lat and Buon Ma Thuot cities in Vietnam’s Central Highlands had to be diverted to Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City because of bad weather in the localities.

In addition, the airline had to cancel two flights from Buon Ma Thuot, Da Lat to HCM City and Hanoi the same day. Representative of Jetstar Pacific said passengers of affected flights will be put on the flights on November 19.
