The training program was launched in 2021 in cooperation with the University's Advanced Collaborative Research Organization for Smart Society (ACROSS). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous two training sessions were held in an online format, but this year was the first time that face-to-face training was held. Eight participants from eight countries, including Fiji and Malaysia, came to Japan and received training at the University's EMS Shinjuku Demonstration Center in Tokyo.

While the development of distributed energy sources such as solar and wind power is progressing around the world, developing countries face problems such as the lack of proper management of these sources. In the case of Japan, the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011 triggered rapid progress in the deployment of renewable energy. During the training, participants learned about the technologies and knowledge that Japan has accumulated since the disaster, which will be useful for the deployment of EMS in their home countries.

In addition to JICA and the university, seven private companies, including Yokogawa Electric Corporation and Hitachi, Ltd. The trainees experienced HEMS (Home Energy Management System) exercises using equipment and devices used in smart houses. A trainee from Morocco commented, "This was a good opportunity for me to introduce EMS in my country. Trainees from Mexico and Indonesia also commented, "I learned how universities and companies work together to develop new technologies.” (2023/06/13)
