Construction industry grows 6.17% in the first 9 months of 2023

(Construction) - On October 18, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi chaired the conference to evaluate the results of task implemention in the first 9 months of the year and guide key tasks for the last 3 months of 2023 of the Ministry.

In the first 9 months of 2023, the growth rate of the construction industry was estimated to increase by 6.17% over the same period. The national urbanization rate estimated at 42.6%. The average housing area nationwide estimated to be about 25.6 square meters per person, an increase of 0.1 square meters per person compared to 2022. The rate of general urban planning reached 100%. The rate of communes with new rural construction planning across the country was about 98.9%.

Regarding to the management of urban development and urban technical infrastructure, the Ministry of Construction submitted to the Appraisal Council of urban and rural system planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, which expected to be submitted to Prime Minister approved in October 2023. The Ministry is also researching and developing a draft set of criteria for sustainable evaluation of smart cities, expected to be completed and issued in 2023. By the end of September 2023, there were 902 urban areas nationwide, including 2 special urban areas and 22 urban areas of class I.

The Ministry of Construction reported to the National Assembly on legal tasks that need to be researched and propose a new Law on Underground Space Management; Research the project for unified state management of urban and rural water supply and inter-regional water supply; Coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to summarize 12 years of implementing Joint Circular No. 04/2009/TTLT/BXD-BCA dated April 10, 2009 guiding the implementation of water supply for fire prevention and fighting in urban areas and areas. industry.

Regarding to the management of construction materials, the Ministry submitted to the Prime Minister the National Sector Planning of "The plan for exploration, exploitation, processing and use of minerals as construction materials in the period 2021- 2030, vision to 2050" at the document No. 29/TTr-BXD dated May 30, 2023, at the same time continue to effectively implement the Vietnam Construction Materials Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030, orientation by 2050.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi assessed that, in the first 9 months of the year, with the determined efforts of the entire Ministry, officials, public employees and workers, the construction industry had many changes with positive results. Basic targets closely followed the proposed plans. To complete tasks in the last 3 months of the year, the Minister requested the units under the Ministry to focus on implementing a number of key tasks.

The Minister also directed these units to pay attention to reform administrative procedures, decentralize the power according to authority within the Ministry to promote cooperation and coordination with ministries, branches and localities; Strengthen the inspection, examination, internal management, and human resources; Strengthen the professional expertise and enhance responsibility to achieve the assigned tasks.
