(Construction) – On April 27, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Construction held a conference to gather opinions on the draft planning project of the national urban and rural system in the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van chaired the conference.

At the conference, Deputy Minister Van noted that this was one of the sectoral plans in the national planning system that very important in the formation and development of the urban system in the development period 2021 - 2030. This was a very new, very difficult aspect with the characteristics of a rural urban system and development orientations in the coming time.
According to Deputy Minister Van, in order to well implement urban and rural planning, reviewing, evaluating and identifying major issues should be done to solve the important matters. Specifically, four major issues that need to be solved, in which the city is the driving force of development and must be developed in the balanced and harmonized way not only the economy but also the socio-cultural aspects; Balanced development between urban and rural areas; the urban development space should be controlled because nowadays the urbanization of land is much faster than the urbanization of population...
The major issues that need to be resolved in this planning period are to solve bottlenecks in the spatial organization of urbanization in Vietnam, aiming to increase agglomeration and promote economic transition to higher added value; create resources for investment in infrastructure to meet the increasing demands of the urban population; control the urban space on the basics that land urbanization is proportional with population urbanization; create the balance between urban and rural development.
