While the scores have risen in some areas, the Economy indicators have continued to decline since last year. Of the 6 fields that make up the ranking, Tokyo's "Economy" score is placed 4th among the 48 cities surveyed. Indicators such as GDP growth, human resources, and corporate tax rates are at lower levels than in other major cities around the world. The report also pointed out the delays in development of workplace options.
Tokyo raised the scores from last year in the fields of "Environment" and "Accessibility". Tokyo was highly evaluated by the newly established indicator "cleanliness of urban space". By increasing the score in "International Freight Distribution", the ranking in the accessibility fields has risen by one rank from last year to the 7th place.
Director of the institute Heizo Takenaka said, "The impact of the COVID-19 is only partially reflected in the report, but I would like you to pay attention to what kind of impact it will have next year."
The top five cities ranked in the 13th edition of GPCI remained unchanged from last year, with London in the top of the list followed by New York, Tokyo, Paris and Singapore. The survey covers 48 cities around the world, and this year is the 13th time.
