(Construction) - The 20th ASEAN-Japan Transport Ministers Meeting was held in Bali, Indonesia on October 17 to discuss cooperation in the field of transport between ASEAN.
The meeting approved the ASEAN-Japan Transport Partnership Work Plan for the period from 2022 to 2023 that focuses on cooperation in 27 areas, including joint research on bridge maintenance and management technology and port security technology. The contents of “Technical Reference for Bridge Maintenance in ASEAN Cross-Border Corridors” and “Booklet of Best Practices in Port Security Measures” were also approved as deliverables of the past activities.

The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Shoji Nishida, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, and Mr. Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Transport of Indonesia. Ministers in charge of transportation from ASEAN countries participated in the meeting.
The Co-Chairs' Statement approved the Action Plan for ASEAN-Japan Transport Cooperation for 2022-23. Based on the plan, the two countries will continue to cooperate in seven areas, including: promotion of PPP, railroad rehabilitation projects, decarbonization of airports, and promotion of accessible transport, in addition to joint technical research in related fields such as bridges and port security.
